Tomato upma

Most of my recipes are my moms recipes. This is one of her recipes for which she was asked by many friends to show them how to cook it. The way she makes is very creamy and full of awesomeness. If you make in any other oil, the taste will surely differ. We south Indians prefer to make use of coconut oil...one of the secret to our slim body and long healthy hair ..

Ingredients :-

Suji Rawa 1 Cup

Peas Frozen / Boiled 1/3 cup ( as much needed )

Carrot Frozen /Boiled 1/3 Cup( as much needed)

Mustard Seeds 1 Tsp

Urad Dal 1 Tsp

Onion 1 small /Medium

Ginger 1 Small pieces Chopped

Curry Leaves 3-4

Green chillies 2 ( As per Taste)

Coconut Oil 2 Tbsp

Water 1 & 1/2 Cup

Tomato 1 Chopped

Salt 1 Tsp ( as per taste )

Butter 1 Small Cube .

Method :-

1) Dry roast the Suji rawa & remove in a separate bowl.

#TIP :- Dry roast all the suji you have and store in air tight container when cold, this will keep the suji from getting spoiled ..it will stay good for long period of time, nor there will be any bugs.

2) In the same pan + Add Oil , when hot add Mustard seeds - let it crackle.

And then add Urad dal - let it change color to golden .

3) Add Chopped onion, Ginger , Slit Green chillies, Curry Leaves & add Salt - Let it cook for 10 mimns on low flame.

4) Add Chopped Tomato, and cover and cook until tomatoes are soften and oil separates .

5) Add boiled/Frozen Peas ,little coriander for taste, a small cube of butter(optional )

and chopped carrot( boiled) . *** while making this recipe i haven't added Carrot.

6) Add 1 & 1/2 cup of water & let it come to a boil .

7) Then add in the roasted Suji . Mix everything well as faster as possible .

OR

*** You can also add suji rawa first and then add HOT boiling WATER - 2 CUPS or more as needed either way ****

8) Cover and cook for 10 mins, until you see the water evaporated and its not sticky any more.

If it is very sticky, cook on low flame until the water dries .

9) Sprinkle some cilantro .... Volla Upma ready :)

Happy Cooking .
