Kanda Poha Recipe

Most famous breakfast recipe of Maharashtra . If you ever happen to visit anywhere in Maharashtra, don't miss your chance to have some lip smacking poha. It a soul food. Can be given in lunch boxes for kids.

Poha - also callled as "Flattened rice, Aval, Avalakki, Chiura, Beaten rice etc

Ingredients

Poha( THICK) 3 handful ( 1 1/2 cup ) - Serves 3 adults

Onion 1 large chopped

Oil 2 Tbsp

Salt 1 Tsp ( As per taste )

Lime 1/2 tsp

Peanut 2 Tbsp ( as needed) Optional

Cumin Seeds 1 tsp

Coriander / Cilantro 1/2 cup

Green Chillies 3 -4 Green Chillies ( As per taste)

Turmeric 1/2 Tsp to 1 Tsp ( As per choice)

Method :-

*** The most important step is to wash the THICK poha & soak for 2 mins and drain the water as shown in the video (with a strainer) or simply tight squeeze the poha in your palm and place it in a separate bowl. There are 2 kinds of poha available in market . Thick and thin. Used thick in my recipe.

Whereas thin poha, no need to wash and soak or drain ...It only need sprinkle of water to make it wet. Rest of the method to cook remain the same.

1) Take oil in a kadai / Wok, add the peanut & roast it until golden brown & remove in a bowl.

2) In the same Wok , add cumin seeds ..let it crackle .

3) Add Chopped onion & cover & cook for 2-5 mins .

4)And then add chopped green chillies & sauté for 2 mins .

5) Add salt and turmeric powder & half of coriander leaves.

6) Add Poha ( Soaked & drained ) & combine everything very gently .

7) Add the roasted peanuts & cover and cook on low flame until you can see steam. (- 5 mins ).

Garnish with Coriander , Grated Coconut and Shev (Aloo Bhujiya ) & lime juice , as per taste.

Happy Cooking :)
