How to care for the Orchid plant at home.

Hey, Y'all! how are you guys doing? I never ever thought I would ever write on this topic on "how to take care of orchids at home "but hey! I proved myself wrong.

I remember buying an Orchid plant twice and in spite of doing everything right as per the tiny instruction that comes with it, I failed miserably and had to toss it out.

So with a long deep pause, I decided & promised myself never to buy any Orchid plant.

And many days turned into months & months turned into a year, never ever any thought ever crossed my mind of giving another try.

Until last year when one of our family friends visited us & guess what did they gift me ??? :)

" A B_E_A_U_T_I_F_U_L O_R_C_H_I_D P_L_A_N_T! "

This blog is dedicated for all the fellow reader, who are struggling with caring for an Orchid Plant and looking for some concrete secrets on the internet!

I am in no means an expert but want to share my experience, hopefully, my tips will help you.

Orchids are considered to be one of the most beautiful flowers!

When purchasing Orchid plant, go with the one which looks healthiest.

Here are some tips and tricks i follow:-

1) No over watering.

2 ) HOW MUCH WATER:-

*Use Ice Cubes( 3-4 no's) once a week.

OR

1/2 Cup of water, once a week.

****** most of the time I use the store brought bottled drinking water (eg #Aquafina)- 1/2 cup ) , you can try this in case you think your tap water is killing the plant***

Even if you skip 1 week of watering, it wont hurt the plant much.

It will survive and bounce back , as soon as you water them.

3) WHEN TO WATER:-

1) 1- 2 weeks / when you find the leaves to be droopy and look tired, its time to feed them with either Ice Cubes or 1/2 cup of water. ( You choose).

2) Also once a month, I like to place my plant in the kitchen sink and run the tap water very gently or by using sprinkler head and let it soak for 2 mins & close the tap and let it sit there until all the water drain out.

Once water drains out, you can keep it back to its designated spot.

4) WHAT FERTILIZER CAN BE USED:-

I haven't used any fertilizer at all.

But if you like to use and want quick result, you can buy #MiracleGroOrchidfood (Orchid Mist, Water soluble plant food or spikes) online or any store and feed them as per the instruction (typically once a month.)

5) PLACEMENT:- No direct strong sunlight.

You can place them either EAST OR WEST facing window.

6) TEMPERATURE:- Do not keep them near the vent or near heater. Do not leave them out in winter. Keep them indoors. This is specifically important for people living abroad where winter is brutal.

If you go on a month-long vacation and you completely missed on watering them before leaving & come find they look distressed and bit dry, do not toss them. Rather do water them as you would normally do and they will bounce back in no time.

Dont get dissappointed by having no flowers and just leaves for long period of time. My orchid bloomed litreally after a year but I am more than excited that they finally did!

Orchids can bloom to many weeks and when the flowers fade away, you can pinch it off and if any stem fades , just cut that particular part.

I haven't yet repotted my plant but would be trying as soon as the flowers fade away & in future will be writing about the success story as well.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read through my blog. Please do share in the comment your experience and any funny incident if any in growing orchids.

Until then Happy Gardening !
